FT-86... Hate It Or Love It?...
So many of you might know that Toyota has unveiled the predecessor to the ae86... well in all honesty, the only connection to the ae86 would be it being a Toyota, being Rear wheel drive and the "86" in the name... anything beyond that is unbeknown to me. one would think that Toyota would have at least borrowed one of the ae86's famous attributes. but putting aside the fact that it does not inherit any of it's ancestor's physical traits, it does have traits that are all its own. which brings us to my question... hate it or love it? or is there a medium somewhere between the two? maybe a picture of the FT rocking the panda red and black color way and wide set Watanabes will bring you over to its' side. Is there a picture of such sort????
what do you all think??????

Old School wheels..... the new ones?
So there are many choices in life. some of the most important choices you have to make in life come down to decisions like, a house to buy, a woman to marry, and what rims to get for your oldschool ride. but with these life changing decisions one must make the right choice. so, when it comes to oldschool wheels with a new school twist, that decision comes to us that much harder. i have compiled a short list of some of the most popular emulated oldschool style wheels that are now on the market...
we first start with the Konig B-Bombs. these are replicas of the SSR MKIII (mark 3). they come in 4x100/4x114 bolt pattern and in 15x7 or 15x7.5 and have offsets of 0 and +8.
these might be the most popular of all the wheels listed. The konig rewinds. these happen to be replicas of the eight-spoke Watanabe and might be the most precise replica of all the others. they come in 4x100/4x114 and come in size 14x7 and 15x7 in -9 or 0 offset.
we now continue with some XXR wheels or formerly known as Sportmax. these wheels were designed with the oldschool style with lightweight design. these particular sets are called the XXR 501. not sure exactly what they replicate, but they come in 15x7 and 15x8, 4x100/4x114, and come in +38 and +15 offsets.
another version of the eight-spoke design, these are the XXR 002. what is really nice about XXR wheels is that they like lip... this design, along with the 501 has a 3inch lip. these come in 15x7 and 15x8 in 4x100/4x114 and have offsets of +38 and 0.
Now Rota has been around for a while now, but recently released a newer version of their Rota RB, which is also an eight-spoke design. these are called the Rota RB-R. not too sure about the sizes and patterns this set comes in because no information has been released on the Rota website.
lastly, we have the Drag Dr-20. not necessarily the more popular vote on this list, but it still holds its own amongst the other replicas. it follows the disigns of the Work Equipe 03. they come in 15x7, 4x100/4x114 patterns and have 0 and +10 offets.
soo... after reviewing these wheels, i'd really wanna pick up some new wheels. the wheel that i would have to go with would be the XXR 501 or the Rota RB-r, if i knew more about it. well there you go.. my short list of newschool oldschool wheels. take your pick, but choose wisely. no school like the oldschool.

Random Oldschool: 1978 Mitsubishi Galant/Chrysler Sigma
Alright, its no longer "random oldschool of the week"... more like "of the moment".
Now, i present to you a wonderful example of an oldschool identity crisis. Also known as a Chrysler Sigma, this Mitsubishi Galant is a great looking restored member of the Diamond star Mafia.
This Galant belongs to fellow JNC member, DrSigma from down under.(for those of you who have been living in a cave... hes from Australia) where the Chrysler logo was super glued onto a Mitsubishi. i love how this car basically says, "hey im old. but i still look good."

1st Gen Celica swaps.... short list
so its come to my attention that many ppl on our 1stgencelica.com forum that motorswaps are still some of the most trendy topics. for those who are interested in an engine swap for their 1st gen celica and those who are just interested in knowing what us celica owners are up to heres a very short list of examples of some swaps for our beloved dragons:
again there is my swap, the 22rte
pros: relatively one of the easier swaps, easy power, relatively the cheaper of the bunch
cons: hard to find a 22rte block, hard to find the required pieces
there is the 22re
pros: probably even cheaper and easier than the 22rte, easy to find replacement and aftermarket parts
the 7mgte found from the mkIII supra
pros: awesome power, stock motor can give you high 12s on the 1/4, lots of available aftermarket parts, easy to find
cons: more expensive than the 22re/rte swaps, heard the 7m head gaskets leak alot
the 2rz from a 95+ tacoma
pros: tons of torque and power, newer engine fitted with more technological advancements
cons: need to be knowledgeable in fabrication.
the 1jz/2jz from mkIV supra
pros: the holy grail of toyota engines, tons of power/torque/awesomeness
cons: fabrication galore!!
the f20c/f22c from the s2000
pros: VTEC
cons: its a honda....... hahaha

a while back i Hosted a little get together over at Treasure Island, Ca... for those of you who do not know where that is located, it is a little naval island in between oakland and san francisco. what we thought to be a small gathering between a group of friends turned into something, how should i put this, quite larger than we expected...
Random Oldschool of the Week: Toyota Celica 1976 Toyota Celica Liftback
so again, excuse me for not posting anything up for a long time..... ive been really distracted. but i am back to bring you a car i think deserves alot of attention.
this beautiful 76 Celica belongs to SuperchargedRa29 from 1stgencelica.com
a very lovely example of the slight details; details that really set this liftback off. the nice stance that complements the konig rewinds, the lightweight fiberglass smiley bumpers... i could go on and on about how simple yet beautiful this car looks. the interior is nothing but pretty as well. (excuse the work being done to the centerconsole)
did i forget to mention just one more reason this celica deserves a little more attention?
20r supercharged.... i think that's why his member name is SuperchargedRa29. Could it be?

1975 Toyota Celica build....update may 20, 2009
So... The Celica's engine swap is finished! 22rte running, driving is in! heres some pics of me pulling it out of the shop.
Right when we got home, my brother and I took apart the ratty old springs we had on there and replaced them with some sw20 eibach lower springs. we had to cut them a bit, which helped because not only did it drop the car where it should be, but it lowered the spring rate which matched the weight of the car.

Random Oldschool of the week...1976 Toyota Corolla te31 E5
So... this feature oldschool of the week happens to belong to a fellow Back In Da Dayz member. This is Darien's (my cousin) 76 Te31 corolla. This E5 model is supposedly supposed to be the "economical" version of the te31... but we all know how "economical" these can get. especially equipped with headers and exhaust.... The traditional bright orange helps bring back that feeling of old japanese tin, along with the 13x8 8-spoke designed Rota Rb's.
What can I say? It runs in our blood.

Random Oldschool of the Week: 1973 Mazda Rx-3...
And we're back.... been out of bounds for a while now, but we are back. back to give you the low down on the old school community, and the Back In Da Dayz Crew.
To kick off our re-ignition, I'd like to start with this random oldschool of the week.
A 1973 Mazda Rx-3. Previously featured in our long missed GrandJDM.This little rotary bad boy is amazing. A real looker and performer. With Rx-7 gsl-se front and rear suspension. This fiberglass over-fenders and front airdam add to the amazing-ness (is that a word??) of this classic. Maybe the classic SSR MkII do it a favor. Whats the size again? 14x9 in front and 14x10 in rear.... hmmm

1975 Toyota celica build *update 4/7/09...
The motor is in! The 22rte is sitting so prestine in the engine bay! I want to sleep on top of it. I dont know why, but i just wanna lay on top, grab a pillow and just sleep there.
The problem that we've run into now, is that bigger ct26 wont fit in the stock location. which is under the manifold. Sooo, one solution Joey thought of, was to run an aftermarket top mount turbo manifold. Lets see how this goes!!

Random Oldschool of the Week: 1973 Toyota Celica ST
For this week's random oldschool, I found a friend of mine's 73 Toyota Celica. Jp's (Zulu from 1stgencelica.com) ST really relates to me. A fellow youngster in the oldschool world, Jp has made this celica his own. The fiberglass front fenders with the molded over fenders make for a nostalgic style racer. It now sits a lot lower than it did, and the OG Rota RBs also hit the spot. Great Job Jp. See you soon.
